From the port in Piraeus, it was only about a 40-minute drive by coach into the city of Athens. We had a lovely tour guide who took us to see the Olympic Stadium (the bleachers are entirely made of marble!) and then onto the famous Acropolis.
Amy's delight of the day in Greece was discovering a family of snails at the entrance to the Acropolis. They were seriously the largest slugs we have ever seen and with beautiful shells too! My photography skills are too lacking to do these little creatures justice...
The most notable structures at the Acropolis are the amphitheatre and the Parthenon. We enjoyed exploring the whole of it and our tour guide had lots of interesting history and stories to tell us. The little girls enjoyed climbing on all the many columns and rocks everywhere.
