Tornado Alarm Clock

We haven't used an alarm clock in years but last night we thought about setting one since Matt had to get into work early for a conference call with people in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As it turned out, we woke up to the tornado sirens at 5:30 this morning anyway! We only got a brief glance at the weather as we hauled the kids down to the basement, but the house was groaning and creaking and we could hear debris slamming against things outside. Within about a half hour things had calmed down and the tornado sirens stopped... the only damage to our property that we have seen so far is some branches broken out of the trees and a whole lot of...stuff... in our yard.

Along with the earthquake that woke us up a couple months ago, we are having a very exciting time here in Illinois!

  1. What a scary wake-up call! I really hate tornado season in the midwest. I'm tempted to say I'd take a few more months of winter to avoid tornado season, but that's not true (seven months is long enought!).

  2. I can't even imagine that! I would be seriously freakin out! I was in North Dakota once during a tornado-ish storm and I couldn't sleep because we could feel the lightning hitting the ground around the house. Crazy!
