Primary School Presentation

This morning was the Year 1 Assembly (1st grade). Amy's class summarized what they have learned thus far in the areas of literacy, history, science and religion. (Amy is seated on the front row, far right-hand side next to the IT equipment). They offered prayers, told us about various types of animals (housing, characteristics, etc.), presented Power-point slides about old fashioned housing and appliances (everything from washboards to bed-warmers) and read portions of their own writings.

Amy shared her favourite part of their field trip to Burghley House - a stately home nearby where some movies have been filmed including Chariots of Fire and the newer version of Pride and Prejudice.

Amy: "My favourite part of Burghley House was finding the secret doors."

Perhaps the highlight of the Assembly was hearing the song the children created with their teacher, Mrs. Stevens, about the play "The Tiger Who Came to Tea." In this story, a tiger comes to tea (dinner) and eats all the food in the house and drinks everything too - including all the water out of the faucets. The children wrote stories about animals coming to their own houses for tea - including alligators, unicorns, and gorillas!

"Tea With the Tiger"

Sitting down, eating the tea

Mum and Sophie heard the doorbell

Goodness me! Now who could that be?

The milkman came this morning.

Lots of times they've been to the door

but never thought they'd see a tiger.

He wandered in, it happened so fast

so Mum offered him a sandwich.

It's a sight of the tiger it's a really strange thing

sitting up at the table with a napkin.

And he really does eat an incredible meal

but he's spilling his food on the cloth.

Tea with a tiger...
