On the last day of school for Autumn Term, Amy's primary school hosted their annual Harvest Festival. Each child was asked to bring in an item (or several items) to donate for the display in the hall and later, headmaster Mr. Green auctioned the items off to raise money for WaterAid - a charity that provides clean potable water for people in third world countries. Amy helped bake fruit and nut bread and we also brought a large carving pumpkin (which sold for 10 GBP - the equivalent of $20!)
Each of the classes presented poetry and songs relating to harvest time and we all joined in singing Christian songs of thanks and offered prayers. It was probably as close to celebrating a Thanksgiving as we'll get in Britian and it was amazing! The auction was really fun too and Emily and I had a load of fresh produce, puddings, and pumpkins to haul home in our wagon.
