Keepin' busy...

We have been occupied with many activites the past couple of weeks. Here are some highlights:
Amy received a certificate and a medal from the Deputy-Mayor of Peterborough for completing the Library's summer reading challenge. The children were supposed to read at least 6 chapter books (in 6 weeks), and Amy read double that and logged over 1,600 pages as well. Her favourite? West Side Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachaar. It's a collection of very silly stories from a very unusual elementary school. The ceremony took place at Town Hall in downtown Peterborough and was full of celebration. Guest author Ali Sparkes (creator of "Monster Makers" and the "Shapeshifters" series) spoke to the children about mental imagery in writing and entertained them with a reading from her latest book. There was also a dramatic performance of "The Gruffalo," tables of arts and crafts, snacks, and games.

After the Library Party, we wandered the Italian Market in city centre. I loved the huge blocks of real Italian parmesan cheese, the breads, and of course, the Italian biscuits. We had samples of everything and brought home a lot of good eatin.'

Our Family Home Evening activity for this week included the ever-popular annual tradition of pumpkin carving. We had to do it a bit early this year since we are leaving for Germany and won't be back until Halloween night!

  1. Lana,

Okay, I've wistfully dropped hints of the notion that I'd love to move our family to England, but now my whimsy has turned to determination. I'm determined to live where you do! Any tips to make it happen?
