Chinese New Year

The Chinese cooking lessons began months ago in the kitchen of my dear friend, Min. Having grown up in a tiny village in Malaysia, then living in Singapore the last many years, Min is as authentic as it gets when it comes to good Asian cuisine. Fortunately for me, she is willing to expound her precious knowledge!

Pictured below: my first attempt at making spring rolls from scratch (using the new wok that Matt gave me for Christmas and recipe book that Min gave me for my birthday).

In addition to the behind-the-scenes knowledge, Min also hosted myself and a group of Americans for a Chinese New Year feast last week. I can't even begin to describe how fabulous the food was, although my favourites were the roast pork (which she steamed for 3 hours) and the Chinese New Year salad - made with various cabbages and dumplings.

Pictured left: photos of Min's lovely C.N.Y. decor. I'd really like to find some similar decorations for my own home - this is definitely a holiday tradition I want to continue in our family.

  1. I am sooooo jealous! That is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn authentic ethnic food from someone who really knows! You should email me one of your favorite recipes she teaches you!
