Cost-saving Cambridge

Cambridge is the place to go if you're looking for a bargain on a day of shopping and history. We began our trip with a ride into the city on a double-decker bus. This park-and-ride option only cost 2.25 each (kids free) and no charge to park our car (free parking is extremely RARE in this country!) Plus, we though it was incredibly exciting to ride on such a TALL bus through the narrow streets of this university town.
After doing some souvenir shopping at the outdoor market, we ventured around this exquisite university campus.
Another bonus of Cambridge is that all the museums are free of charge. We explored the archaeology/anthropology museum as well as the dinosaur/fossil exhibits where Matt even got a private consultation with a paleontologist about a fossil he found years ago in South Dakota.
Below: the famous "grasshopper clock" built by a Cambridge University professor.

  1. So what did the paleontologist say about the fossil?
And I've never heard of the grasshopper--what's the story?

  3. Dear Emily, I'm no paleontologist, but even I can state with certainty that the "fossil" is not a dinosaur toe. It is just a rock that looks somewhat similar to a big toe from a dinosaur sized creature (or you might say it looks like a gourd). From his big brother who was there when he found it.

That square in the picture behind Matt and Emily next to the light looks like the one from Chariots of Fire. Did any of you try running around it in the time it takes for the clock to stop chiming?
