Day 1 in France: Rouen

First stop on our route from Calais to Paris: The Old Marketplace in Rouen. This is the site of Joan of Arc's burning-at-the-stake. It now houses her memorial tomb (although her body was destroyed to prevent relics) and also a museum. We stopped here because Amy has learned a lot about Joan of Arc and is quite fascinated by the story (it is also about halfway between Calais and Paris, so the perfect place for a short break).

Inside the museum: Wax sculptures depict the life and story of Jeanne d'arc with audio narration available in a variety of languages.

Of course, we had to sample the local Patisserie. Emily ordered the pain-au-chocolat, Mom chose the tarte-aux-fraises, and Amy went for the macaron chocolat. Dad (not pictured) ate a giant, double-decker creme puff.

  1. These are some really good pictures of you! You look great! (And so does France, of course.)
I am going to email you back but I have the car today so we've been running around getting stuff done. You're on my mind though and I'll touch base with you probably tonight.
